WHO AM I?

Born in Turkey, living in The Netherlands, Hüseyin Badilli is a jazz singer, composer, arranger, and a performance artist. Besides performing, He also works as a vocal coach, creative writing and performance coach since 2011 at Rotterdam Conservatory, Codarts where He completed his master on Vocal Performance.

His first Cd Safran was released at the legendary concert venue Paradiso in Amsterdam in 2012 with the following release tour; Bimhuis, Lantaren Venster, Bird (Dutch Jazz Competition), Rasa, etc. Since then Badilli has been performing in Europe and Turkey with his jazz quintet and trio.

His involvement with Performance Art started through Creative Activism in 2013, when the tension around the Gezi Park resistance movement in Istanbul reached a critical level. Deeply moved by contemporaneous social injustice, he wrote Mr. Prime Minister, a song in the form of an open letter, which was selected by Turkish national newspaper Hürriyet as one of the top 10 protest songs of 2013, and went viral on YouTube. Having realized the power of creative activism he went on to collaborate with artists from various disciplines, exploring themes like racism, sexism, and poverty. His works focus on provoking, manipulating and eventually confronting the society with its hypocritical behaviors.

His first official interdisciplinary performance piece “Playing Possum-My Brothers Might Kill me” was invited by Helsinki Theater Academy for LAPSody Festival in Finland in 2015. His previous performances such as “I Eat Pork” was performed at Contemporary Art Fair Rotterdam. Mr. Prime Minister was screened at the Tent, Rotterdam.
