Singing Lessons/Vocal Coaching

I currently work as a singing teacher at Rotterdam Conservatory Codarts, at the Jazz Department.

I consider my self as a facilitator and I believe in equality. I facilitate information, knowledge, techniques, referances and my performing experiences and I consider "Teaching" also as a performance.

I have a bachelour and a master degree on Classical Signing and teaching (Marmara University and Istanbul State Conservatory)  I have a second master on Jazz Vocals where I practiced different techniques such as EVTS and CVT, and my roots already giving me the chance to be able sing in Turkish traditional style(s) and techniques.

PERFORMANCE COACHING

Besides working as a singing teacher/vocal coach I also work as a performance artist. I create my own pieces and collaborate with other artist from other disciplines. Acting, writing and directing is strongest part of my creativty after singing.

Being present - here and now - is very important also for "teaching". I try my best to see what the "students" already have in them and I start from there to build up a healthy - respectful connection. Instead of emposing what I know and pushing the student to what I know, I have a look on my palet of teachniques and experiences, showing them the options and references, let them decide and figure out what is the best for them. Not pushing to a path but showing the paths.

WORKSHOPS

Why are you singing? Do you know what are you singing about? Do you stay connected to the lyrics? Do you really feel the story of the song? Do you feel anything while you are singing? What is happening in your mind? What do you aim to deliver - and what does the audience receive? Are you really truly open and connected to yourself in order to create a personal performer-ship with the song?

All singers remember how they started – at the age of five, eight, twelve, seventeen... They remember the joy of using their voice to express themselves, the mystery of layered emotion, the tender communication of emotions like happiness or sadness. But somewhere along the line in the process of maturing as artists, we may lose something. Is what we do during performance a choice? Or it is an accident? And if it is a choice are we really aware of it? Why did we choose that?

The freshness of our initial enthusiasm may turn into a routine self depreciation as we lose ourselves in the study of techniques and forget why we are here, practicing, in the first place...

The Circle of Singing is an approach to practice that brings singers back to their core by utilizing certain acting techniques. It keeps us connected to the song, in the here and now - as we are performing - by reminding us why, when and how we initially started to sing. Specifically, this is done through various exercises, grounding the student in their own experience as it relates to the lyrics in order to deeply grasp the their meaning and come to a more profound delivery.
